Dear Parents and Children,

We all have had a GREAT time celebrating Children's Day
together today!! =) Wonderful!!

A BIG THANK YOU to all the Parents, who are so
supportive of our Lower Primary Mini Olympics Games
and also our very own 2B Class Party!! =) Really
Appreciate!! I am sure the Children really enjoyed
themselves, being blessed with so much gifts and food
and games and fun!! YEAH!!

to my... ... Wedding!! It's on 12 Dec at my Church, very near to

NYPS. I will furnish you all with more details when nearer the

date. =)

　　孩子的世界是张白纸，大人在上面怎么画，就会成为什么样子。
想在上面画出最美的图画，关键看父母长辈如何用好手中的画笔。

　　美国的心理学家大卫·科恩却认为，孩子生来并不是一张白纸，
他们出世时先天就已经部分继承父母的脾气、性格等心理基因。因
此，身上隐藏着偏好、偏见、优势与劣势，不少方面是父母不能控制
的，正如不能决定孩子的性别或眼睛颜色一样。

　　是白纸或非白纸这两种论调，雷同古代孟子的“性善论”与荀子
的 “性恶论”。难道孩子的本性带有劣根，我们就让他放任自流吗？

　　孩子有缺点，表现不尽人意，主要责任应该在父母长辈，是他们
没画好这张纸，而不该一味责备纸的质量不好。再劣质的纸，如果画
工好，照样是幅好画。反之，再好的纸，如果遇到粗劣画工，就变成
一张废纸。

　　荀子的《劝学篇》有云：“故木受绳则直，金就砺则利，君子博
学而日参省乎己，则知明而行无过矣……故君子居必择邻，游必就士，
所以防邪辟而近中正也，积善成德……其数则始乎诵经，终乎读礼；
其义則始乎为士，终乎为圣人……德操然后能定，能定然后能应。能
定能应，夫是之谓成人。”以上所述，在在说明教育可以改变一个人
气质品性。

　　柏拉图在《理想国》中也谈到重视儿童道德教育，注重人的品德
培养和以“善”为最高目的教育理念。

　　有一天，我告诉读《弟子规》的小朋友“入则孝，兄道友，弟道
恭”，还播放《赵孝争死》动画给他们看。赵孝是汉朝人，和弟弟赵
礼在强盗面前争死。双方都要牺牲自己保全对方性命，使强盗感动落泪，
将他们释放。后来皇上封他们官位，要天下视为榜样。看毕，一个小朋
友悄悄说她也感动得差点儿哭了。我用机会教育他们兄弟如手足，要相
亲相爱。日后如果他们人人如此，父母在天堂，子女在公堂的事就不会
发生了。

　　父母是孩子的第一任老师，一言一行对孩子思想品德的培养有重大
影响。学校是孩子的课堂，老师的言传身教，也可以产生潜移默化的作
用。让我们以实际行动帮助教育孩子，努力在孩子的白纸上彩绘一片斑
斓，用涂改剂轻轻地抹去白纸上的污点吧！

颁奖日期定在本周五（10月2日）早晨。 小一、小二颁奖将在礼堂
进行，获奖者请于7 时10分在礼堂前面集合。颁奖后和副校长在礼
堂拍照。

Dear Parents & Children,


Children's Day is round the corner! Other than the whole host
of wonderful activities and events(Lower Primary Mini Olympics,
Children's Day Concert, Zoo Trail), we will have a Class Party too!


Date: 30 September, Wednesday (yes, its after Mini Olympics =)


Time: 12noon to 1.15pm (after the Children's Day Concert for P2 =)
(P2 recess will be after the Mini Olympics, around 10.30am to 11am)
(the Concert is from 11am to 12noon)


Venue: 2B Classroom =)


Food: Finger food (for easy organising & cleaning =)


VIPs: ALL 2B Parents are warmly invited to join in the FUN with us!!


Please do let me know if you are joining us for the Class Party and
what finger food you are planning to bring for the Children. =)

Checking of Blue Files & Dates of Chinese SA2

Dear Parents,

The School will be conducting a Check on the Children's Chinese
Blue Files soon. For 2B, it is scheduled on 6 October, Tuesday.

Please ensure that in your Child's Chinese Blue File has ALL the
worksheets I have given out to him or her since the beginning of
this year. Please file all the contents in order in the individual
pocket.

After the File check, if you want to keep the previous worksheets
at home for revision of SA2, you are most welcome to do so. You
can take out the worksheets from the Blue File and file them
accordingly at home.

Though, I will still require the Blue Files to be placed in School, as
I will need the Children to file their future worksheets as and when
I return them. This is for easy organising, as it is never wise to give
back the Children loose worksheets. We all know what will happen
to those worksheets in the end. :)

Please also take note of the following dates for Chinese SA2:
* Oral examination: 15 & 16 October (during Chinese periods)
* Paper 2: 30 October (it will commence in the morning, first period;
the scope will be on both 2A & 2B)

Really hope the Children will all put in their best and do us proud! =)

Mid-Autumn Celebration @ NYPS ~ 2 October, Friday

Dear Parents,

A circular has been distributed to all Parents to inform them about
the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival cum Ex-Pupils' Day celebrations
on 2 Oct (6:30 to 9pm).

Please refer to the following 2 Points:
1) We will like to appeal for contributions of mooncakes and pomelos,
as well as lanterns for hall decorations. =)

2) Reply slips for "Parent and Child" teams keen on taking part in the
Lantern-making competition using recycled materials.

Really appreciate your kind attention on the above 2 matters.

Dear Parents,

Following up on our very successful and well acclaimned
Nanyang Glitters performance put up by our very own NYPS
Children (especially our very own 2B's Rock & Roll!! =) I am
pleased to inform you that the school has copies of the Nanyang
Glitters Prog Booklets which are each autographed by Zoe Tay,
Stepfanie Sun & Sherry Tan. They are selling at $50 per copy,
for our school's fund raising effort.

Also, a very BIG BIG Thank You to all the Parents who have
come forth to volunteer to help out for our Lower Primary Mini
Olympics Games on 30 September. For now we have enough

Zoo Trail~ and Parent Volunteers Needed for Mini Olympics!! =)

Dear Parenets and Children,

We have given out the consent forms for the upcoming Zoo Trail
on 2 October.

One thing to note: after printing the forms, our P2 Level has then
decided today to collect $5 instead of $4.50(admission ticket) for
the trail. We intend to use the extra $0.50 from each Child to buy
biscuits and snacks for the children, to bring along for the trail and
have some picnic fun! =)

Therefore, tomorrow please ask your Child to submit the consent
form and the $5 to me. If your Child is a 'Friends of the Zoo', please
indicate it on the consent form too. In this case, he or she will only
have to submit the form and $0.50. =)

For the Zoo Trail, please come in PE attire and bring along a small
bag. Items to bring along in the small bag:
1) storybook (morning silent reading)
2) writing materials
3) snack (purchase of food will not be permitted)
4) water-bottle
5) raincoat/small umbrella
6) tissue paper/wet wipes/handkerchief

Do feel free to contact me should you have any queries regarding
the Zoo Trail. =)

As for Parent Volunteers, we are very glad to have Mrs Yeo Jam
with us for the Zoo Trail. =) As for the Mini Olympics on 30 Sept,
we are still short of 2 Parent Volunteers. If you are available on that
day to help out, please do contact me via ng_ju_sze@nyps.edu.sg.

The questions posted below are extracted from their worksheets. These are the questions some children have difficulty comprehending and thus made mistakes.

Time

Example: Look at the clock shown.
(1) Jane's watch is 15 minutes slower than the clock.
What is the time shown on Jane's watch?
Tom's watch is 10 minutes faster than the clock.
What is the time shown on Tom's watch?

(2) Fiona completed exercising at 8.40 a.m.
She started exercising 2 hours 20 mins ago.
What time did she start for exercising?


(3) Parking Fees

Subsequent hour or part thereof $1

(a) If Sam parked his car in the car park for 3 hours, how much must he pay?
(b) If his friend paid $8, how many hours did he park his car at the same car park?


(4) Must remind them if they are told to draw the hands for ( let's say 9.45p.m.) , they must take note of the following:

(a) The minute hand must be longer than the hour hand
(b) The hour hand must be between 9 and 10.
Many children drew the hour hand at either 9 or 10.

Fractions

(1) A cake was cut into 6 pieces.
James took one piece and ate 1/2 of it.

(a) What fraction of the cake did he eat?( Answer : 1/12)
(b) What fraction of the cake was left? (Answer: 11/12)

Children should draw the cake with six equal parts and further cut each slice into half.)


(2) Benny drew a flag. ( Must remind them that it is a whole.)
He coloured 2/8 of it green and 3/8 of it blue.
He left the rest of the flag uncoloured.

(b) What fraction of the flag was not coloured?


Volume

Note the following:

1 litre

1 cup of 1000ml = 1 L
2 cups of 500ml =1L
4 cups of 250ml = 1L
5 cups of 200ml =1L
10 cups of 100ml = 1L

Conversion of ml into L and vice versa

E.g. 6000ml = 6L or 5L = 5000ml

They are not taught the mixed combinations. (e.g. 1L 600ml = 1600ml)

There are 2 events coming up for Term 4!
1) Lower Primary Mini Olympics on 30 September, Wednesday
2) P2 Zoo Trail on 2 October, Friday

For Lower Primary Mini Olympics, we will need 4 Parent Volunteers.
For Zoo Trail, we need 1 Parent Volunteer. Parents who are interested
and available to help out and join in the fun with the Children for the
above 2 events, please feel free to contact me ng_ju_sze@nyps.edu.sg.

Once I receive further details on the above 2 events, I will update
you all on the classblog again. =)

Temperature Taking - 14 September, Monday

Dear Parents and Children,

Please note that there will be a Temperature Taking Exercise
on the first day of school for Term 4, 14 September, Monday.

For those of the Children who have kept their thermometers
in the classroom, that's great! For those who have brought
home their thermometers, please do remember to bring them
on Monday.
